Germany has signed a treaty.
In the treaty are the rights of people with disabilities.
The treaty is with the UN.
That is English and means: United Nations.
The treaty is called: UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Germany must abide by the treaty.

The contract says, for example:
People with disabilities decide how they live.
People with disabilities do not have to live in a home.
People with disabilities decide where they go to school.
People with disabilities do not have to go to a special school.
People with disabilities decide what to do in their free time.
People with disabilities get the help they need.
There are many more rights.

Due to the treaty, Germany had to change something.
There is a new law.
It is called: Federal Participation Act.

People with disabilities have rights as a result.
They can claim it.
They are entitled to it.

They should be able to live like people without disabilities.

Maybe they can't walk on their own.
Maybe they can't pick something up by themselves.
Maybe they can't go shopping by themselves.
Maybe they can't wash by themselves.

Maybe they are often misunderstood.
Maybe other people are much too fast.
Maybe they are not heard.
Maybe they have had bad experiences.
Maybe they don't dare to say something.

These people need help.
They are entitled to this help.
This help is called: assistance.

The assistant must know the people well.
The assistant must know a lot about the people.
The assistant must have a lot of specialist knowledge.
The assistant must know a lot about AAC.
The assistant must be able to deal with emotions.
The assistant must be able to work under pressure.
The assistant must have a lot of time.
Then it is a good assistant.
Then it is the right assistance.

A good assistance is a good help.
People with disabilities can then say something.
People with disabilities can then do something.
People with disabilities can then talk to other people.
People with disabilities can then decide for themselves.

This is called: assistance.
Men are called: assistants.
Women are called: assistants.

It is important to seek advice.
Advice must be independent.

Counselors need to know AAC.
These people have special needs.
Counselors need to know the special needs.
These people need qualified and trained assistants.
Counselors need to plan for this.
Counselors need to be able to communicate this to other people.
